Teyana Taylor sobbed as she accepted the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a motion picture for “One Battle After Another.”
“To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability,” Taylor said on stage during her acceptance speech. “Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
Taylor won the award for her performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson’s action thriller.
Also nominated in the category were Emily Blunt for “The Smashing Machine,” Elle Fanning for “Sentimental Value,” Ariana Grande for “Wicked: For Good,” Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for “Sentimental Value” and Amy Madigan for “Weapons.”
Earlier in her acceptance speech, Taylor mentioned how her children were in the audience watching the ceremony. “My babies — they’re upstairs watching. Y’all better be off them damn phones and watching me right now!”
She later thanked director Anderson, referring to him as Paul “Let him cook” Thomas Anderson. “Thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”
The 83rd Golden Globes Awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second consecutive year, took place Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. “One Battle After Another” led this year’s film nominations with nine nods. It was followed closely behind by “Sentimental Value” and “Sinners,” which earned eight nominations and seven nominations, respectively.
