One of Taylor Sheridan's forgotten miniseries is trending on streaming again, years after it finished airing. In 2023, Paramount+ aired all eight episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the classic western limited series following Bass Reeves, who was not only one of the most legendary lawmen who ever lived, but also one of the first black U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River. Headlined by David Oyelowo and written by Chad Feehan, all episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves are streaming on Paramount+, where the show has crept back into the global top 10 in several countries around the world.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves earned acclaim from both critics and audiences, leading to scores of 79% from the former and 93% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. While Sheridan didn’t earn a writing credit on Lawmen: Bass Reeves, he is said to have been heavily involved in crafting the story and making sure things came together as planned. In addition to David Oyelowo, Lawmen: Bass Reeves also stars Lauren E. Banks as Jennifer Reeves, Demi Singleton as Sally Reeves, Forrest Goodluck as Billy Crowe, Barry Pepper as Esau Pierce, Dennis Quaid as Sherill Lynch, and the late Donald Sutherland as Judge Parker.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is not thought of as one of Sheridan’s biggest shows, but it’s quietly one of his most successful ones, even if it only received one season. Sheridan is best known for his work on Yellowstone, the Kevin Costner-led sweeping Western saga that came to a close in 2024. He’s more recently stepped into the spotlight for Landman, his gritty oil drama starring Billy Bob Thornton that just wrapped up its second season last weekend. The show has also been renewed for Season 3.

When Does Taylor Sheridan’s Next Series Come Out?

Taylor Sheridan has a few shows coming in the next few months. Next up is Marshals, the Yellowstone spin-off starring Luke Grimes as Kaycee Dutton. The show, previously titled Y: Marshals, will begin streaming on Paramount+ on March 1 after airing its first episode on CBS. Sheridan will return to the world of Yellowstone a few weeks later with The Madison, another adjacent spin-off starring Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer. The Madison will follow the McIntosh family from New York, not the Dutton's, and it will begin streaming on March 14.
