Golden Globes 2026 Biggest Winners: Timothée Chalamet, One Battle After Another & More
Stellan Skarsgård is getting sentimental—kind of.
As the Sentimental Value star picked up his trophy for Best Supporting Male Actor in a Motion Picture at the 2026 Golden Globes Jan. 11, he took a moment to thank a special group of people who inadvertently helped him with the role.
“My children have been very educational,” Stellan, 74, quipped in his acceptance speech at the Nikki Glaser-hosted event. “I’m playing a father who is a bad father there. And my children have really told me what a bad father is.”
Beyond his eight kids—he’s dad to Alexander Skarsgård, 49, Gustaf Skarsgård, 45, Sam Skarsgård, 43, Bill Skarsgård, 35, Eija Skarsgård, 33, and Valter Skarsgård, 30, with ex-wife My Skarsgård as well as Ossian Skarsgård, 16, and Kolbjörn Skarsgård, 13, with wife Megan Everett—he also gave a shoutout to his longtime love for her role in helping prepare him for the Joachim Trier movie.
“I got to thank my wife Megan Everett Skarsgård,” he said. “She’s been amazing as a sort of brutal support, a tough lover, and very educational.”
The cheeky jabs at how Stellan’s personal life informed his work in Sentimental Value haven’t just come from him, however. In December, Alexander took a moment to playfully call him out.
“Sentimental Value—a beautiful film,” the True Blood star told his dad during their conversation for Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors. “You play yourself, right? An absentee father?”

With him adding that he was beginning the smear campaign against his dad after Stellan expressed mock anger at the “insult.”
The 2026 Globes wouldn’t be the first time that Stellan has shared some humor on-stage. After all, he praised Colin Farrell's eyebrows at the 2020 Golden Globes as he accepted the award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Limited Series or TV movie for Chernobyl, thanking the film’s makeup and prosthetics designers for giving his face a zhuzh in the film.
"I should, though, thank one person and that is Milos Forman, who said to me a couple of years ago, 'Stellan, I've seen so many films with you, but I never remember your face!'" the Mamma Mia! actor said during the January 2020 ceremony. "And I realized it was because I don't have any eyebrows, nobody could tell if I'm angry or surprised. It’s not like Colin Farrell. You can tell if he's angry 20 miles away, but for this film, Daniel Parker made a couple of eyebrows for me!"
