If there’s one franchise that never gets old, it’s Scooby-Doo. The mystery-solving canine has starred in countless relaunches, movies, and series, and now he’s set for another. Warner Bros. has confirmed a new series of kawaii/chibi-styled shorts is in development, offering fans a fresh, adorable take on the beloved classic.
Announced in November 2025, the new animated Scooby-Doo project titled Scooby-Doo! Gokko is slated for a 2027 release.
Some fans may remember a similar project featuring Tom & Jerry Gokko released a few years ago. Scooby-Doo! Gokko will follow a comparable style and format, and those curious about what’s in store for the mystery-solving canine can check out the Tom & Jerry series on YouTube and HBO Max.
Scooby-Doo! Gokko Could Signal a Bold Anime-Inspired Era for the Franchise
Does Scooby-Doo's New Series Mean We'll Get Go-Go Mystery Machine?
With a 2027 release date, details about Scooby-Doo! Gokko remain scarce. Still, this project already feels like the start of one of the franchise’s boldest eras, exploring an artistic style previously unseen for Scooby-Doo and the gang. With its strong Japanese cultural influence, it could pave the way for future long-form anime-inspired reinterpretations of the classic mystery-solving team.
If this reinterpretation of the classic gang proves successful, fans could see more anime-leaning versions of the franchise. This would take Scooby-Doo into bolder, more experimental territory, a departure from the mostly Western-style animation and live-action relaunches that have dominated the franchise’s history.
Warner Bros’ history of co-producing anime reinterpretations of their properties, including Batman Ninja (2018), Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021), and RWBY: Ice Queendom (2022), makes it likely they could pursue similar genre expansions with Scooby-Doo, building on their experience and willingness to experiment with anime-influenced storytelling.
Some may recall that in 2024, an anime project called Go-Go Mystery Machine was announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, featuring Shaggy and Scooby traveling to Japan to battle Yokai. There have been little to no updates concerning this show. However, the announcement of the anime-adjacent Gokko series provides a glimmer of hope that this other Scooby-Doo project could eventually come to life.
