Scooby-Doo has announced another spin-off, two years after Velma ended. The latest installment of the iconic 1969 cartoon by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears is set to be released next year. Its art style is said to be different again, but this time it's anime, and it's said to share similarities with another classic cartoon that underwent this treatment a few years earlier.

The new Scooby-Doo spin-off is titled Scooby-Doo! Gokko and it was announced during a makeup launch event for Scooby-Doo x Miss Frandy in Brazil. According to TV Laint, the spin-off is currently in development and scheduled to debut in 2027. Additionally, it's said to be similar to Tom & Jerry Gokko, a Tom & Jerry anime that premiered in Japan in 2022, then hit international markets in mid-2025, and is available on HBO Max and YouTube, featuring Tom and Jerry in a cute/chibi Japanese art style with shorter episodes.

At the moment, the new art style for this new Scooby-Doo spin-off has yet to be revealed. Scooby-Doo! Gokko isn't the only Japanese-inspired spin-off in the works. It was previously reported that a show called Go-Go Mystery Machine is in the works, where Scooby and his friends travel to Japan to solve another case. An image for the series has been released, showcasing a new anime art style for the beloved franchise.

What's 'Scooby-Doo' About?

Scooby-Doo is an animated franchise that began in 1969, following Mystery Incorporated, a crime-solving group consisting of Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy, and a dog named Scooby-Doo, as they solve supernatural mysteries and travel to different locations in a van called the Mystery Machine. The show's premise follows a similar format: Mystery Inc. arrives in a location, only to learn that a monster or some supernatural force is causing problems for the locals. The team investigates, which usually leads to hijinks and a chase. A trap is set that catches the monster, only for it to be revealed that a human was behind the mask/costume/illusion, who always calls these adults "meddling kids."

Since its debut, the Scooby-Doo franchise has become a fan-favorite classic, spawning multiple TV shows, films (both animated and live-action), video games, and comics. As of writing, 14 TV shows have been released, the franchise has received numerous accolades, and has become popular to the point where it crossed over with other franchises like Supernatural and the DC Universe.

Scooby-Doo! Gokko is scheduled to come out in 2027. Follow Collider to stay up to date with the latest updates.
