A scene from the second season of Prime Video's Jack Ryan has gone viral following recent real-world events. In the scene, John Krasinski's titular CIA analyst explains the geopolitical importance of the oil and mineral-rich Venezuela, which was recently invaded by the Donald Trump administration. Perhaps as a result, Jack Ryan has jumped back onto the Prime Video viewership charts, two years after it concluded its run with a fourth season. The show is getting a spin-off movie, which entered production last year. Following the lead of shows such as Bosch, Jack Ryan paved the way for more dad content such as Reacher, which remains a fixture on the streamer's viewership charts.

According to FlixPatrol, Jack Ryan was among the most-watched shows on the domestic Prime Video charts on January 7, just behind Reacher and ahead of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. The leader board for the last week or so has been topped by the second season of Fallout. Jack Ryan was co-created by Carlton Cuse, who has commented on the resurgence. It ran for four well-received seasons, and ended its run in 2023. Over the course of its run, the show received mostly positive reviews and holds an overall rating of 80% on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Jack Ryan peaked with its final season, which holds a 94% score. In the scene that has now gone viral, Jack Ryan explains to a hall full of university students that Venezuela is "arguably the single greatest resource of oil and minerals on the planet," and identifies the country as a major threat on the world stage.

Carlton Cuse Has Reacted to the Show's Prophetic Narrative

Reacting to the scene going viral in the wake of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro's arrest, Cuse said in an interview, "What always surprises you as a storyteller is how often real-world events catch up to fiction. The goal of that season wasn’t prophecy — it was plausibility. When you ground a story in real geopolitical dynamics, reality has a way of making it rhyme.” He continued, "Any time the United States uses force abroad, it’s a moment that deserves reflection. The consequences are born most significantly by people who have very little control over events. I can only hope things move toward stability and peace for the people living there.” You can watch Jack Ryan on Prime Video, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
