The hit series Mr. & Mrs. Smith finds a new showrunner as it prepares to start filming its second season. A reimagining of the 2005 action movie of the same name, Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as two spies posing as a married couple. The freshman season was released in February 2024 to strong reviews.

Now, screenwriter Anna Ouyang Moench, known for her work on Severance and Beef, is confirmed to be the new showrunner for Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2. Francesca Sloane served as the showrunner for season 1. Anora's Mark Eydelshteyn and Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher were previously announced as the new titular leads and are confirmed to still be attached.

Sloane exited the series in September 2025 for a new deal with HBO Max, which includes writing for Big Little Lies season 3. Casting issues also put Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 on hold around this time. Actors who were approached for recurring or guest roles in season 2, per Deadline, include Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

The supporting cast of season 1 includes Michaela Cole, John Turturro, Alexander Skarsgård, Sarah Paulson, and Parker Posey, none of whom are expected to return. Donald Glover, who also serves as a co-creator on the series, will remain involved creatively. Specifically, he and Sloane will both still be executive producers while Moench is the new showrunner.
