It’s a new year, new start for Andreas Hjertø, the content acquisitions chief for Prime Video in the Nordics.
The exec, whose job title was Regional Manager, announced his from the Amazon streamer after five years on LinkedIn today saying he “looking forward to new projects” that he is starting today, but did not go into detail. His last day will be January 19.
A spokesperson told Deadline that Emilia Widstrand would continue to lead the Amazon MGM Studios Nordics business, with Hjertø’s acquisitions team staying in place and reporting to regional management.
Hjertø last year replaced content chief Martin Backlund, a role that handed him control of oversee investments, programming and partnerships. He also worked closely with the local originals team.
In a note to staff seen by Deadline, Hjertø thanked his team and said he was moving on to a “new adventure.”
In his exit note on LinkedIn, Hjertø added: “What a ride. It has been incredibly fun to be allowed to help start a streaming service in the Nordics, but after five years it is time for new challenges,” he wrote. “We have invested massively in Nordic content both directly and indirectly, and I believe we have created a streaming service that will continue to do so for a long time to come.
“It has been important to me to build something stable that is not just looking for quick wins, but that can collaborate locally to become part of the ecosystem and contribute positively. And I think we have largely succeeded in that.”
Andrew Bennett, Vice President, Prime Video Europe & Global Business Development, said Hjertø had “played a key role in building and developing Prime Video’s presence in the Nordics,” adding: “Over time, he became a trusted regional leader and a natural point of reference for the Nordic markets across the organisation. His work has spanned content, partnerships and market development, including the establishment of our first productions and the delivery of several important strategic deals.”
This is the latest change for Prime Video in the Nordics. In August last year, we revealed Widstrand was replacing Lindström as Head of Nordic Originals, with the latter later joining HBO Max.
Prime Video Nordics‘ originals include a local version of LOL: Last One Laughing, Roast on the Coast, Snake Killer and Vaka, while on the acquisitions front, Hjertø was key to the deal that saw Amazon snap up nine originals that were previously set for Viaplay.
