PlayStation gamers can get their hands on seven new free downloads right now, and the very best part is that you don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access them.
Being able to try video games before you buy them is so important, especially in an era of increasingly troubled launches, where games are released riddled with bugs and glitches. Shouldn't we be able to see for ourselves how a game runs before we buy it? Sadly, this isn't something bigger companies allow, but that doesn't mean there aren't still demos to be had, hopefully giving you a taste of your next favorite game.
PlayStation Has 7 New Free Games You Can Try Now
Don't be shy, give them a try!
As of January 2026, there are a ton of new demos available via the PlayStation Store, but there are seven new ones in particular that I think are worth your time. Let's take a look, shall we?
- Front Mission 3: Remake Demo — Get your hands on the new remake of the 2000 classic right now.
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon Story Demo —Get a taste of a particularly huge RPG. If you like what you play, the whole game offers up nearly 100 hours of content.
- Dark Deception Demo — A story-driven first-person horror maze game. This demo will let you know if you have the stomach for it.
- Octopath Traveler 0 Prologue — Play through the opening chapter of Square Enix's massive new RPG. Your progress actually carries over, too.
- Neon Inferno Demo —A gloriously retro Cyberpunk run-and-gun shooter.
- Contraband Police Demo — I guess there really is a simulation game for everything at this point, isn't there?
- Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree Demo — A lovely-looking roguelite set in a far-off mystic realm. Reviews have been mixed, but a demo means you can make your own mind up.
PlayStation Has Hundreds Of Demos
No PlayStation Plus required
If you like the sound of any of the games above, all you need to do is head to the demos section of the PlayStation store, or navigate to the specific game's page and add it to your library.
If none of the above games float your boat? That's no problem. PlayStation has literally hundreds of free demos that you need PlayStation Plus for. Unfortunately, some of the bigger games out there do have "free" trials, but they're locked behind a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription and, thus, not really free. Yes, it does suck.
