Despite having debuted over one year ago, Peacock's crime thriller The Day of the Jackal is back on global streaming charts. According to FlixPatrol, the series is among the most popular on streaming platforms such as HBO Max, Apple TV Store, and OSN. The Eddie Redmayne-led remake of Frederick Forsyth's 1971 book of the same name was a hit right off the gate when it premiered in November 2024. It was the number one show on Peacock in its premiere week and remained in the streamer's top ten for its entire run. With an 85% critics' score and 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the series was positively received and earned a swift renewal.

Fantastic Beasts star Redmayne plays The Jackal, an elusive assassin who travels the world under different disguises to commit some of the most elaborate hits. He has had a successful career, but when a dedicated British intelligence officer (played by Lashana Lynch) sets her sights on him, a thrilling cat-and-mouse game develops as the duo traverses Europe, leaving destruction in their wake. The Season 1 finale featured a massive cliffhanger when The Jackal's secret identity was discovered by his wife (played by Úrsula Corberó), and she ran away with his son. Other cast members for Season 1 include Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O'Neill, and Sule Rimi.

Will 'The Day of the Jackal' Return for Season 2?

The show was renewed for a second season after performing well on Peacock and Sky in the UK. Season 2 is expected to pick up directly after the Season 1 finale as The Jackal pivots and goes after his wife and son. Details about the season are scarce, but an update shared by star Redmayne in June 2025 revealed that writing for the second season's scripts was in progress. "I’ve just seen the first script, and what I love is that it’s staying true to the character, but the ambition seems to have inflated," he told TheWrap in an interview. "The second I read it, I thought, ‘When can we start?’"

The Day of the Jackal was created by Ronan Bennett, the mind behind shows like Top Boy and MobLand. Bennett is also the creator of the upcoming Army of Shadows television remake. The Day of the Jackal Season 2 does not have a premiere date. Stream all episodes of the first season on Peacock.
