Netflix will release the first-ever adaptation of an Emily Henry book with People We Meet on Vacation, and reactions are very promising. A year later, People We Meet on Vacation also joined the list of bestsellers, and it didn't take long before Netflix decided to produce a movie starring Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' Tom Blyth and My Lady Jane's Emily Bader.

While the score will likely change, it's a huge win for Henry's first-ever movie adaptation.
While critics claim that the movie contains clichéd elements of a romantic comedy, the majority found the adaptation charming thanks to a stellar performance from the leading duo. In ScreenRant's review of People We Meet on Vacation, Molly Freeman was thoroughly impressed by the Henry adaptation, awarding a near-perfect 9 out of 10 stars.
She praised the Netflix film for being a throwback to classic rom-coms and boiled down the complicated friendship as the big reason why the movie works, even lauding Blyth and Bader's performances for making Alex and Poppy "feel real." The reviews for the romance author's first movie adaptation are a good sign for future projects. Ahead of its release, four more Henry novels are being adapted for the big screen, including Beach Read and Book Lovers. Most recently, Netflix will continue its collaboration with the author as the studio will be adapting two more books: Funny Story and Happy Place. Henry will be involved in writing both movies.
People We Meet on Vacation follows two polar-opposite college best friends, Alex and Poppy, who have gone on an annual vacation together for a decade. However, a trip to Croatia soured their relationship, resulting in a two-year estrangement. This would lead to a final trip as a chance to patch things up.
In addition to Blyth and Bader, the People We Meet on Vacation cast also includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Molly Shannon, and Miles Heizer. Brett Haley helms as the director, while Yulin Kuang, Amos Vernon, and Nunzio Randazzo were responsible for the screenplay. Henry acted as an executive producer.
People We Meet on Vacation will be released on Netflix on January 9, 2026.
