We're barely into the new month, but that hasn't stopped Netflix from unveiling the titles leaving the platform in February. Among these titles is unarguably the best movie of the past decade, Parasite, from the Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon Ho. Released in 2019, Parasite follows a poor family that infiltrates the home and life of a wealthy family, and the film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, Park Myung-hoon, and Lee Jung-eun.
According to Parasite's page on Netflix, the last day to watch the film on that service will be January 31, 2026, meaning it won't be available starting the next day, February 1. Often regarded as Bong's magnum opus, the South Korean thriller is a critics' favorite, boasting a Certified Fresh 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus noting that Bong is "in near-total command of his craft" and that the film depicts an "urgent, brilliantly layered look at timely social themes." Its audience rating is also impressive, with a Verified Hot 90% based on over 5,000 ratings.
What's more? Parasite received numerous accolades globally, including the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards, becoming the first non-English-language film to win the award. It also won an additional three Oscars, for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film, at the same time being the first South Korean film to receive any Academy Award recognition. Furthermore, the remarkable feature was a financial success, grossing $258.1 million worldwide on a budget of $11.4 million.
'Parasite' Exits Netflix in a Few Weeks
Following the success of Parasite, a six-hour HBO limited series based on the film, was announced in early development in January 2020, with Bong and Adam McKay as executive producers. According to Bong, the series will also be titled Parasite, and will explore stories "that happen in between the sequences in the film." Marvel star Mark Ruffalo was rumored to star in February 2020, and Tilda Swinton was confirmed as being cast in a lead role before her exit in October 2022. As of February 2025, Bong confirmed that the series was still in development.
Stream Parasite on Netflix before its imminent departure next month and stick with Collider for further updates.
