My Hero Academia’s Creator Gifts Fans a Promising Update on Their Next Project

She also enjoys all things creative, like sewing and makeup.

It's been nearly a month since My Hero Academia's final episode dropped, and yet, it still doesn't feel like the series has truly ended. The decade-long saga has kept millions company, and it's safe to say that the feeling that it's over hasn't sunk in yet for many fans.

Despite the Winter 2026 anime lineup being packed with hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and even My Hero Academia's own spin-off, Vigilantes, fans are still keeping an eye out for Kohei Horikoshi's next move, be it a sequel, or a brand-new manga series. That said, fans may not need to wait much longer, as My Hero Academia's creator just dropped a very promising update on his return and his next project.

As part of a collab between Kagurabachi and My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi recently participated in a joint interview with Takeru Hokazono. The interview in its entirety was recently translated and published on Kagurabachi's official website, and revealed a crucial update on Horikoshi's next move as a mangaka.

When asked about his next project and whether he had anything in mind yet, Horikoshi revealed that he's already working on his next project. The interview and Horikoshi's response reads:

Do you have something in mind for your next project?

Horikoshi: Yes, I do. I’m currently working hard on a project.

Horikoshi did not specify the details of this new project in the interview or how far along it is, and it is possible that it is still in the conceptualization stage. As such, it's also unclear when fans will be able to lay their eyes on Horikoshi's next manga.

That said, while Horikoshi's return is all but confirmed, the one question that remains is of his involvement in his next manga. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that a mangaka takes a back seat and handles either just the story or the art after braving the Weekly Shonen Jump deadlines for years on end.

It's happened before with Kishimoto and Boruto and even Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, who recently brought on Yuji Iwasaki to handle the illustrations for the series' sequel, Modulo, in his stead. Horikoshi has also had his own share of health issues over the course of My Hero Academia's serialization.

Even so, it seems very likely Horikoshi will be handling both the writing and illustrating for this upcoming project. This projection comes from a statement by Horikoshi in an interview with Marvel from December of last year, which reads:

"I was thinking to committing myself to simply drawing my next project, and letting someone else write the story, but my editor advised me, 'It will be better if you do it all yourself.' With that in mind, I've slowly started writing and drawing the thumbnails of my next manga."

Of course, things can always change as the project has yet to be officially announced. But, with Horikoshi handling both the story and art, it's fair to assume that his next project could reach even greater heights than My Hero Academia.

The reason being that, over the last ten years, Horikoshi has visibly honed his artistic and storytelling skills, which especially shine towards the end of My Hero Academia. And, perhaps with a more relaxed release schedule like that of Jump Giga, these skills could be applied to the fullest in his next manga from the get-go.
