Meta Hits Pause on Ray-Ban Display Expansion to Europe and Canada

Sorry, Europe and Canada, no Meta Ray-Ban Display for you. In a CES 2026 announcement about some new features coming to the Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta snuck in some not-so-fun news about its smart glasses’ immediate future. The company said it will not be bringing the Meta Ray-Ban Display to any country that isn’t the U.S.—at least for now.

Here’s the exact phrasing:

“Meta is pausing Meta Ray-Ban Display’s international expansion to the UK, France, Italy, and Canada due to an overwhelming amount of interest in the US and limited inventory. Meta will continue to focus on fulfilling orders in the US while it re-evaluates international availability.”

So, by Meta’s own estimation, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is kind of a victim of its own success? It’s hard to say what’s really behind the decision to put international plans on pause, but maybe the company simply doesn’t have the manufacturing or sales infrastructure to make/sell enough of these things in a global market. Or maybe the demand just isn’t there, and it’s easier to just blame that lack of demand on high demand?

Either way, order fulfillment in the U.S. does appear to be anecdotally very slow right now, so that part of the equation is pretty cut and dry. A short stroll through Reddit will tell you that plenty of people have experienced long delivery times, and that’s not even counting the fact that you still have to go to a store in person and do a demo before you’re even allowed to buy a pair. Having actually done the process of calling stores and looking for a pair myself, I can attest to the fact that supply has been low.

Whether Meta will actually get around to expanding the availability of the Meta Ray-Ban Display globally will depend on a lot of things—namely, whether it can actually get people to drop $800 on a pair of smart glasses and give the company a reason to expand. But for now, if you’re left out in the Meta Ray-Ban Display-less cold, you’ll just have to read my extensive review and use your imagination.
