Grand Theft Auto 6 is obviously the biggest game everyone is talking about this year, with an anticipated November release date that still has the potential to get pushed back even further. As such, most studios are going to be avoiding an overlapping release window by all means possible.
According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier (via CB.com), Sony will reportedly try to avoid releasing Marvel's Wolverine "in the blast zone" of GTA 6, with an estimated release in September or October. Schreier believes that "Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA 6," essentially avoiding any overlapping November releases.
Wolverine Can't Beat One Enemy: GTA 6
Marvel's Wolverine looks like it's going to be an absolute banger when it does eventually release (hopefully this year), though a specific launch date still hasn't been provided by Sony or Insomniac outside the anticipated Fall window. Schreier believes that this can be narrowed down even further based on the juggernaut GTA 6's anticipated release date of November 19.
Assuming Insomniac doesn't announce a delay beyond Fall 2026 for Wolverine, Schreier thinks it's safe to assume we will get the exciting new Marvel project BEFORE we get GTA 6, even if it's just a few months or even weeks prior. A September and/or October release is the most logical timeframe given GTA 6's current expected launch, though players understand at this point that GTA 6's release date is subject to change.
PlayStation Is Wary Of The GTA 6 "Blast Zone"
Despite various delays, developers and higher-ups at Sony don't have much of a choice but to make plans based on Rockstar's projected GTA 6 launch in November, and it's already having a major impact on 2026's schedule. With dozens of other projects anticipated to roll out this year, it's hard to imagine just how much a third delay would wreak havoc on various other releases this year.
Ultimately that's the name of the game when it comes to GTA 6, and even if Marvel's Wolverine ends up being one of PlayStation's most incredible games of the year, all eyes are going to be on GTA 6 when it finally comes out.
That said, Wolverine clearly wouldn't stand a chance if it were to launch in the same month as Grand Theft Auto 6, so players should keep their fingers crossed that Insomniac will soon announce an actual release date before November.
