Marvel's newest video featuring Doctor Doom has reignited a slew of theories around the character and their role in Avengers: Doomsday. Ever since it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing the role of Doctor Doom in the fifth Avengers movie, theories have been rampant about what the character's role will be like in the MCU timeline.
A good portion of this widespread theorizing draws from the complexity of Doctor Doom's own history, which has seen him play a truly diabolical and remorseless villain, a truly well-intentioned antihero who's capable of standing against threats like no-one else can, and just about everything in-between. Interestingly, Marvel's latest look at Doctor Doom has stoked the proverbial fires around more than one theory regarding how the MCU will choose to adapt the character going forward.
Marvel's New Doctor Doom Video Has Reignited Avengers: Doomsday Theories About The Character
In the build-up to the release of Avengers: Doomsday, there's been no shortage of scrutiny around anything linked to Doctor Doom. With little currently seeming definitely concrete about the MCU's depiction of the character, there are naturally a lot of ways the character could be imagined for the upcoming MCU movie - and a lot of source material that may or may not spell things out beforehand for us.
With this context in mind, it's no surprise that Marvel releasing a full 4-minute-long video playfully detailing the life of Doctor Doom and his role as the leader of Latveria - in the new "Doctor Doom Says Come Visit Latveria" episode of the franchise's Marvel Super Heroes: What The--?! series, which has run on and off since the 2010s - has also reignited plenty of fan theories about what to expect for the MCU.
The specific contents of Doctor Doom Says Come Visit Latveria have further encouraged theories about Doom's Doomsday suit - particularly the theory that the character will wear his white God Emperor Doom suit, as a not dissimilar outfit appears in the video - as well as leading some to further believe the theory that the MCU's Doom will keep his mask on, despite Robert Downey Jr. being cast in the role, since it's such a core component of almost every other depiction of the character.
While the Doctor Doom video takes a more comedic tone compared to what seems to be in store when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday, the fact the series returned not long ago, and has delved into joking about MCU lore previously, does seem to have helped convince people that there may be more than meets the eye when it comes to this playful addition to Marvel's release roster.
Doctor Doom's Marvel Super Heroes Video Is A Reminder Of How Many Different Angles The MCU Could Approach Doom From
Though it's currently unclear whether this episode of Marvel Super Heroes: What The--?! will actually have any ties to or parallels with the MCU's depiction of Doctor Doom, the video is interesting in the way it provides a potted history of sorts about many of the most notable events and features of Doom's life, serving as a reminder of just how many different ways the MCU could approach the character.
Doctor Doom's rivalry with Reed Richards is perhaps one of the most famous aspects of the character, but the episode also details Latveria and his intense control over it, the Doombots he made to carry out his whims, Doom's conflict with Mephisto thanks to his mother's soul being trapped in Hell, and much more. More than anything, though, the video underlines Doctor Doom's immense power level, which is displayed throughout.
Despite only being around 4 minutes long, this means the video is able to be a prime example of just how many different directions Avengers: Doomsday can take Doctor Doom in, especially since it also underlines that Doom can work in a very serious or very comedic tone equally well. As such, the release of Avengers: Doomsday should be all the more interesting in that it will allow viewers to also see which specific path was eventually chosen for the MCU's depiction of the iconic Marvel character.
