‘Lord Of The Flies’ Gets Trailer; Premiere Date On BBC Set

The buzz around BBC and Stan‘s Lord of the Flies is growing with the release of a trailer and a February launch date in the UK.

The four-part series will launch on Sunday, February 8 on BBC One with new episodes dropping at 9pm each week on the channel. BBC iPlayer will launch all episodes on launch night.

Adolescence writer Jack Thorne‘s adaptation of the William Golding novel about a group of school boys shipwrecked on a tropical island comes from Sony-owned Eleven, and is for the BBC and co-producer Stan in Australia. Sony Pictures Television has international distribution rights.

In the 40-second trailer, we see the numerous members of ensemble cast of more than 30 biys getting to grips with the reality of life stranded on an unnamed Pacific island with no adults. Things begin in a civil manner, with one saying, “We need to think about food and shelter. We need to help each other and be good camp mates.”

Led by Ralph (Winston Sawyers) and supported by the group’s intellectual, Piggy (David McKenna), they seek to organize themselves. However, Jack (Lox Pratt) turns to hunting and vyes for the leadership. Just as with the book, the boys turn on each other and we see theme descending into tribalism and feuding as they lose their innocence.

Also starring are Ike Talbut as Simon, Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah and Cassius Flemming as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.

An original score for the series has been created by composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus, Smile), with Hans Zimmer (Dune, Planet Earth) and Kara Talve (Tattooist of Auschwitz, Prehistoric Planet) of Bleeding Fingers Music creating the series’ main theme and additional music.

Commissioned by Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt, is series is directed by Marc Munden, and produced by Callum Devrell-Cameron (Sex Education, Hanna). The executive producers are Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell for Eleven, Jack Thorne for One Shoe Films, Marc Munden, Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC and Cailah Scobie for Stan.
