Marvel continues with its Avengers: Doomsday trailer barrage, and the latest footage revealed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie rewrites what the franchise set up with Thunderbolts*'s post-credits scene just a year later. Thunderbolts* is one of the MCU's best movies, and it was an extremely necessary release for the Multiverse Saga, as the film united many supporting characters.
Thunderbolts* also set up a major team for Avengers: Doomsday's story, as the Thunderbolts became the MCU's New Avengers at the end of the movie. While the meaning behind the film's asterisk made for a pretty big reveal, Marvel still had one more in store, reserved for Thunderbolts*'s post-credits scene, but Avengers: Doomsday's trailer has now rewritten it.
Thunderbolts* Set Up A Major MCU Meeting

Marvel then revealed that the New Avengers were operating out of the old Avengers Tower, given that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine owns it and the heroes have power over her, wearing team uniforms, and facing legal issues.
The latter set up the New Avengers to have some conflict with Captain America's Avengers team when Doomsday arrives later this year. Additionally, Thunderbolts*'s post-credits scene also introduced the Fantastic Four, as the team's spaceship was seen flying through space. Thunderbolts* was released on May 2, 2025, and now, on January 9, 2026, Marvel has rewritten that scene in a way.
Avengers: Doomsday's New Trailer Skips Ahead Of Thunderbolts*'s Setup
With The Fantastic Four: First Steps being released a couple of months after Thunderbolts*, the latter marked the first time that the team was seen in the MCU, even if it was just the Fantastic Four's spaceship, not the heroes themselves. It also set up the New Avengers to be the first team from the MCU's main Earth to come into contact with the Fantastic Four.

The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer is out, shining a light on the Fantastic Four and the Wakandans, which includes the reveal of superhero suits.
However, Marvel's fourth Avengers: Doomsday trailer has changed the game. The teaser brings back Ebon Moss-Bachrach's The Thing, who meets Winston Duke's M'Baku, revealed to be the King of Wakanda, in a desert. This marks the first time that fans can see a member of the MCU's Fantastic Four interact with a hero from the franchise's main universe.
That undoes what Thunderbolts*'s post-credits scene set up, as fans have yet to see the New Avengers meet Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards and the rest of the team. Sure, the New Avengers and the Fantastic Four could still meet in space in a scene that takes place prior to The Thing and M'Baku meeting, but it will no longer be the first look at the team's Avengers: Doomsday crossover like Thunderbolts* suggested.
