Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Spartacus: House of Ashur episode 6!Spartacus: House of Ashur star Graham McTavish has unpacked Korris and Ashur's surprising ending in the spinoff's latest episode. The two major characters in House of Ashur parted ways at the end of episode 6, with Korris being allowed to leave by Dominus. Ashur and Korris share a moment where they pray together prior to his departure.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender, McTavish explained Korris and Ashur's final meeting with each other in Spartacus: House of Ashur episode 6. The series star emphasized how Korris has been fighting his whole life, and, having worked so closely with Ashur on the Ludus, was only able to see how close they'd become at the very end:
Graham McTavish: It's like saying goodbye to anything that you've become completely familiar with, or that is just ingrained in your entire being. He's probably been a gladiator, fighting as a slave, and then working as an ex-slave for all his adult life. I think it's very hard, in many ways. When he leaves Ashur, he's slightly surprised by how touched he is at the moment of that parting. They've been so locked into this ambition of achieving everything for the Ludus that it's almost like they haven't taken the time to look at each other and go, "Well, actually, I kind of like you. You're okay. Even if I wasn't here, I might like hanging out with you." I think it is an interesting moment for both of them.
Korris had been a loyal member of the House for quite some time, working as a gladiator and trainer of gladiators for much of his life. Although Spartacus: House of Ashur's timeline differs from that of the main show, Korris still holds some attributes that added hints of familiarity to the show, especially his interactions with Ashur.
However, the pair's parting of ways was also ingrained with tragedy. Throughout the show, Korris has been in a secret relationship with Opiter, who he almost ran away with during the events of the episode. However, episode 6 ends with Opiter and his villa killed by the Brothers Ferox as part of a power play.
Korris doesn't know about Opiter's death by the end of episode 6, and it's unclear how the fallout of this knowledge could play out. But it's clear Ashur has become close to the gladiator trainer in ways that, per McTavish's statement, he never expected to. This means he may have a significant role to play in avenging Opiter's demise.
The story of Spartacus: House of Ashur has only just begun, though, with this turning point for both characters potentially strengthening their bonds. However, Korris no longer has a role in the House, making his exit very possible in episode 7. But it's equally likely the show manages a twist, with he and the protagonist becoming bigger allies.
Since Spartacus: House of Ashur has four episodes left, there's plenty of time for the series to develop the aftermath of Korris' departure now that he and Ashur have become close allies. The moment will likely have consequences as the season continues, especially given the tragic cliffhanger for Opiter and the inevitable fallout that comes with his death.
New episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur air Fridays on Starz.
