Julianne Moore has joined Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh’s Oscar-shortlisted live action short film “Two People Exchanging Saliva” as an executive producer alongside Isabelle Huppert.
The absurdist dystopian short — written, produced and directed by Musteata and Singh — premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September 2024. Produced by Paris-based Misia Films (Valentina Merli and Violeta Kreimer), the project is narrated by Vicky Krieps and stars Zar Amir (“Holy Spider”) and Luàna Bajrami (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”).
Set in a society where kissing is outlawed and transactions are completed through slaps to the face, “Two People Exchanging Saliva” follows Angine (Ebrahimi), a discontented woman whose fascination with a playful salesgirl (Bajrami) draws suspicion from a jealous colleague.
“Julianne Moore leads with empathy in life and in her work. She has an extraordinary ability to understand the inner lives of others and to honor that complexity on screen,” said Musteata and Singh, who are married and are based in New York. “Having her join this film as an executive producer feels personal to us. In ‘Far From Heaven’ and ‘Safe,’ she gave enduring form to characters navigating identity, repression, and vulnerability within stifling social systems and delivered performances that resonate deeply with the themes of this film. It’s a true honor to have her join our team,” the pair continued.
The live-action short film has been having a large presence on the festival circuit, earning multiple laurels, including the grand jury prize at the 2024 AFI Fest, best in block at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival and both the Canal+ national and national audience awards at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. The film is now streaming on The New Yorker (newyorker.com) and The New Yorker’s YouTube channel.
Musteata and Singh are repped by WME. Moore is repped by WME and Huppert is repped by CAA.
