Julia Roberts Read ‘Ocean’s 14’ Script and Was ‘Surprised’ at How Good It Is: ‘We Wouldn’t Do It If It’s Not Good’

Yes, Julia Roberst has read a script for the forthcoming “Ocean’s 14” film — and she was “surprised” by how good it was, she told Variety’s Marc Malkin during the Variety Golden Globes Pre-Show presented by Amazon Fire TV. 

“Yes, I have seen a script,” Roberts told Malkin when asked about the project. “And I was kind of surprised, because I was like, ‘Oh, what is the story going to be?’ And it’s good. I mean, we wouldn’t do it if it’s not good.” 

The news comes months after Roberts’ co-star George Clooney said that the fifth chapter in the series was likely going to film in 2026, with original stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Roberts expected to return. Clooney also teased that “Ocean’s 14” had a “great” script back in 2023. Variety reported that David Leitch was in talks to direct the anticipated movie. 

“We just got the budget approved at Warner Bros. and we’re trying to set up,” Clooney confirmed to E! News. “It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us. Probably start in about nine or 10 months, shooting.”

The “Pretty Women” actress first appeared in “Oceans 11” in 2001 as Tess Ocean, the ex-wife of Danny Ocean (Clooney). She reprised the role in “Ocean’s 12” in 2004. 

At the Golden Globes, Roberts is nominated for best performance by a female actor, drama for her portrayal of Alma Imhoff in Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt.” Previously, she’s received Golden Globe nominations for roles in films including “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Notting Hill,” “August: Osage County” and more. She won the best actress award at the event for her roles in “Erin Brockovich,” “Pretty Women” and “Steel Magnolias.”
