Tobey Maguire memes from Spider-Man 3 will always remain iconic, but it looks like the dancing meme from the Sam Raimi movie has finally been replaced by a surprisingly viral moment from an Apple TV show.
More often than not, it is hard to pinpoint the precise reason why a meme went viral in the first place. However, when it comes to the "Bully Maguire" and "Emo Peter Parker" memes from Spider-Man 3, one can attribute their popularity to our newfound love for Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movies when he returned as the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In contrast, when one considers one of the most viral dancing memes from 2025, it is hard to explain how it gained so much steam and even seemingly surpassed the popularity of the Tobey Maguire dancing meme.
Emo Peter Parker Is Still Iconic, But 2025’s Most Viral Dance Meme Was From An Overlooked Jon Hamm Show
Every time the iconic Tobey Maguire dancing meme from Spider-Man 3 pops up in my feed, I am entertained. It is not only hilarious no matter how many times I see it, but it also serves as the perfect reminder of how iconic Sam Raimi's movies were. Even though the third Spider-Man film received a mixed response back in the day, it is memes like these that have ensured its legacy remains embedded in pop-culture.
Nowadays, though, a Jon Hamm dancing clip shows up during my social media scrolls far more often than any other meme.
The clip of Jon Hamm dancing in a club with his eyes closed has taken social media by storm, and, at this point in time, it seems significantly more popular than dancing "Emo Peter Parker." The Spider-Man meme's popularity made a lot of sense because it aligned with Spider-Man: No Way Home's release and later gained more traction when Sam Raimi returned to directing superhero films with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In contrast, the Jon Hamm meme is from a relatively more obscure Apple TV drama called Your Friends & Neighbors, which is not even close to being as popular as Spider-Man or even Hamm's previous shows.
The Jon Hamm Dancing Meme’s Popularity Has Transcended Its Original Context

The Jon Hamm dancing meme perfectly represents the internet phenomenon where one thing gains so much popularity and traction that it completely transcends its origins. At this point, many using the meme template in their videos and reels do not even know where the Jon Hamm clip comes from. Neither do they care.
It is still hard to complain about the meme's vitality, though, since it will bring at least a little more attention to the under-the-radar Apple TV show, Your Friends and Neighbors, before its season 2 releases on April 3, 2026.
