Netflix's gritty new crime thriller series starring Jon Bernthal, His & Hers, has instantly become the streamer's Number 1 TV show in the world. The Bernthal-led TV show follows estranged husband and wife, Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal) and WSK TV News reporter Anna (Tessa Thompson). The pair attempt to solve a murder, believing each other is the killer.
The series has earned massive praise from critics already. As of writing, His & Hers' Rotten Tomatoes score sits at a Certified Fresh 83% from critics based on 23 reviews. It also has a 77% from audiences, though less than 50 ratings for right now. Given its January 8, 2026 release date, it's clearly made a strong first impression.
Said impression has continued with its viewership numbers. According to FlixPatrol, His & Hers is now the Number 1 TV show on Netflix as of January 9, 2026. The series has shot to the top after just a day on the streaming platform, including earning the Number 1 spot in 57 countries around the world.
The popularity of His & Hers has earned it success around the world, with Number 1 spots in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Spain, and Portugal. The series is based on Alice Feeney's novel of the same name, and was developed for TV by British theatre director William Oldroyd. Dee Johnson (Army Wives, The Good Wife) serves as showrunner.
The Netflix original mystery thriller currently sits above a number of high-profile series on the platform. This includes Harlan Coben's newest series, Run Away, the just-finished Stranger Things season 5, and Emily in Paris season 5. Its critical reception and Bernthal's involvement are no doubt positive attributes that have contributed to its massive success on the platform.
As the series' six-episode storyline unfolds, a plethora of secrets are unearthed, becoming the forefront of what happens across the show. Episodes also range on the shorter side for a streaming series, with the longest coming in at 47 minutes. Because of this, it makes the series easier to digest, with a relatively quick story that gets to the point fast.
With its sudden arrival at Number 1, His & Hers has a chance to continue maintaining a strong streaming presence going into its debut week. Its current stature coupled with stellar critical reception means the series isn't going anywhere anytime soon. With Bernthal and Thompson leading, it'll likely continue to attract attention in the coming days.
