John Mulaney Postpones Minneapolis Shows After ICE Shooting: “It Doesn’t Sit Right”

As Minneapolis reels from the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Good, John Mulaney has postponed this weekend’s shows in the Twin City.

The 4x Emmy-winning comedian announced that his Mister Whatever shows at the Armory will be rescheduled for April 10-12, explaining that “it doesn’t sit right” with him to put fans at risk after the Trump administration deployed more than 2,000 agents to the city.

“To everyone in Minneapolis: My shows at the Armory this weekend will be postponed,” he announced on Instagram. “What’s happening in your city is heartbreaking.

“I hate to postpone shows in a town going through such awful challenges and such grief, because it feels unfair to the audience. Still, I don’t feel comfortable asking thousands of people each night to leave their homes, gather at the venue, and then make their way home when the situation is so unsafe,” added Mulaney.

The Everybody’s Live host noted that tickets will be honored for the new dates, or refunds will be available at the point of purchase or Ticketmaster.

“I am sorry to anyone who is disappointed,” added Mulaney. “I know a fun stand-up show could be a nice distraction, but it doesn’t sit right with me to put anyone at risk.”

The victim of Wednesday’s shooting was identified as Renee Nicole Good, 37, a US citizen and Twin Cities resident who had a 6-year-old child, according to the StarTribune.

In a statement, Tricia McLaughlin, spokesperson for DHS, said that “ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.”

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that the agents were taking part in an enforcement action “because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis. They were attempting to push out their vehicle and a woman attacked them, and those surrounding them, and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle.”

In a press conference, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the Trump administration is “already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly, that is bullshit. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.” Frey also told ICE to the get “f*ck out of Minneapolis.”

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that the incident is still under investigation as to what happened. He and Frey called for peace in the city, as protesters gathered at the location of the incident in south Minneapolis.
