EXCLUSIVE: Big news ahead of Sundance: Indie motion picture vet Jessica Lacy is jumping from Range Media Partners to Gersh where she’s been named Partner and Head of Film Finance and Distribution.
At Range, Lacy led Range Select, the firm’s in-house film finance and sales division, and she was also a partner there. Prior to Range, Lacy counted more than two decades at ICM Partners as a Partner and Head of the International and Independent Film department, a division she built and led.
Across her career, Lacy has overseen the structuring, financing, packaging, and distribution of films premiering at Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, SXSW, and Tribeca, brokering sales for many of the most acclaimed titles on the global festival circuit. Recent highlights include Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut Woman of the Hour, which sold to Netflix for $10 million; the Alan Ritchson–starring revenge thriller Motor City which sold to IFC’s RLJE; Sundance 2025 selection By Design; and Raoul Peck’s Cannes award-winning Ernest Cole: Lost & Found.
Additional recent and upcoming projects include Raoul Peck’s Orwell: 2+2=5; Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin’s HBO Max doc Billy Joel: And So It Goes; She Rides Shotgun directed by Nick Rowland and starring Taron Egerton; Guy Nattiv’s Tatami and Harmonia; and Casey Affleck’s directorial debut Company.
Gersh and Range will work together to co-represent several upcoming titles, including the Sundance premiere title Frank & Louis directed by Petra Volpe and Family Movie, directed by and starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.
Lacy also brokered the $25M record-breaking acquisition of CODA, which became the highest-priced Sundance sale in history and went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture, as well as Drive My Car, Cha Cha Real Smooth, One Night in Miami, and I Am Not Your Negro.
Lacy brings with her clients including Raoul Peck, Susan Lacy, and Cold Iron Pictures and its founder Miranda Bailey. Throughout her career, she has worked with such filmmakers as Spike Lee, Brian De Palma, Julie Taymor, Jim Jarmusch, Barry Levinson, Sofia Coppola, John Turturro, and David Mamet, as well as indie autuers such as Sean Baker, Karyn Kusama, Guy Nattiv, the Zellner brothers, and the Duplass Brothers.
“Jessica is one of the top executives in the independent film world, with a track record of pairing bold creative voices with smart, global distribution,” said Leslie Siebert, president of Gersh. “Her expertise, relationships, and instinct for the marketplace will be an enormous asset to our clients and strengthen Gersh’s leadership in the independent film space.”
“On behalf of Range, we wish Jessica Lacy all the best in her next steps at Gersh,” said Jack Whigham, founding partner of Range. “She has been a wonderful partner to us over the past few years, helping set up Range Select which will continue to operate in her absence. We look forward to continuing to partner with her in this new role, starting with our co-repped title at Sundance and beyond.”
Lacy’s hire at Gersh comes in the wake of the recent appointment of April Tombs as Head of Branding & Endorsements, as well as the agency’s expansion into 17 countries, along with the launch of new departments in digital, voice, and sports representation.
