Jason Statham heads into 2026 as indisputably one of the biggest action stars in the world, but over 20 years ago, he teamed up with Jet Li for a wild sci-fi movie that just got a disappointing streaming update. Statham and Lee star alongside Delroy Lindo and James Morrison in The One, a ridiculous multiverse thriller film following a rogue agent who goes on a hunt for alternate versions of himself as he gets more powerful with each version he kills. The One is currently streaming on Netflix in America, but the streamer has announced that the last day to watch the film will be on January 31.
Jason Statham was still finding his footing as an action star when The One was released in theaters in 2001. The film was panned by both critics and audiences, leading to it earning rotten scores of 13% from the former and 51% from the latter on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It performed moderately well at the box office, though, despite these poor reviews. It grossed nearly $80 million against a $49 million budget. Not bad for one of Statham's lowest-rated movies.
James Wong worked with Glen Morgan to write the script for The One, and Wong also stepped behind the camera to direct the film. Wong is best known for his work as an executive producer on The X-Files, the long-running conspiracy thriller/police procedural series that’s being rebooted by Ryan Coogler. He directed several episodes of the show, along with directing episodes of recent popular procedural 9-1-1. Wong also famously directed the original Final Destination movie, as well as the maligned 2009 adaptation of Dragon Ball Z.
When Does Jason Statham’s Next Movie Come Out?
Jason Statham’s next movie, Shelter, will be released exclusively in theaters on January 30. The film was directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who is best known for directing both of Gerard Butler’s Greenland movies. Come August, Statham will also star in Mutiny, another action thriller from the director of one of Gerard Butler’s most beloved movies; Mutiny comes from Plane director Jean François-Richet. Statham will close out the year with The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to his hit 2024 action thriller. It was just confirmed earlier this week that The Beekeeper 2 will arrive in theaters before the end of 2026.
Be sure to check out The One before it leaves Netflix on January 31, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
