A misconception about a Guardians of the Galaxy scene is clarified by James Gunn. The scene in question involves Yondu (Michael Rooker), accompanied by Kraglin (Sean Gunn), where he insists that the Broker (Christopher Fairbank) provide information about the Orb that contains the Power Stone. When the Broker is unhelpful, Yondu begins speaking gibberish and talks over him as Kraglin tries to suppress a smile.
In response to a post on Threads claiming that Rooker went off script and caused Sean Gunn to break character in this scene, James Gunn shares that this is not what happened. He confirms that Yondu's mocking and Kraglin's reaction were both in the script.
Gunn adds that the closeup of Kraglin was added in pickup shoots and had to be done in front of a blue screen, none of which involved "breaking character." He also explains that this is the kind of work that happens when fans hear about movies doing reshoots. Check out his full response below:
When it comes to James Gunn's superhero movies and his other work, especially in the ever-growing DCU, he is known for being active on social media and debunking false information. It is not constricted to his current films, either, as the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was released more than a decade ago in 2014.
Beyond clarifying misconceptions about this specific scene, Gunn's response also brings more awareness to misconceptions about how movies are made. There are frequently untrue claims about actors improvising key moments, and a project undergoing reshoots is often viewed as a sign of behind-the-scenes struggles. In reality, reshoots are a common practice for movies and shows after principal photography concludes.
Gunn's openness about behind-the-scenes details contributes to the positive relationship he has with fans, whether it's talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy movies years later or teasing what is still to come in the DCU.
While there are many DC projects in the works, Gunn's focus is largely on the Superman sequel titled Man of Tomorrow. The story will see former enemies Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) teaming up against the villainous Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).
Elsewhere in the DCU, Guardians of the Galaxy's Rooker and Sean Gunn have worked with James Gunn again. Rooker voices one of the Man of Steel's robots in Superman and plays Red St. Wild in Peacemaker season 2. Gunn portrays Maxwell Lord in Peacemaker season 2 and voices GI Robot and Weasel in Creature Commandos.
