Liam Hemsworth Details His Engagement to Gabriella Brooks

Consider Liam Hemsworth fully, uh, bewitchered by Gabriella Brooks.

"I didn't have a huge plan behind the engagement," he shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October, a few months after proposing to his fellow Australian while still in the middle of filming Netflix's fantasy drama The Witcher. "I mean, I had enough of a plan to have bought the ring, but I was just sort of waiting for the right sort of moment."

Mission accomplished, considering, as the Isn't It Romantic actor pointed out, "she said yes."

After which, the betrothed couple headed off to the Maldives to chill out and celebrate. In fact, they didn't confirm the happy summer news until September, Gabriella sharing a photo on Instagram that left no doubt as to the significance of the diamond she had started wearing on that finger.

"We're super excited," Liam told Today's Savannah Guthrie Oct. 27. "It's a happy time in life."

And showing rather than telling is pretty normal for the relatively private couple, who haven't divulged much about the inner workings of their nearly six-year romance.

The couple first sparked romance rumors together after being spotted at lunch with Liam's parents in December 2019, four months after he and Miley announced they had separated less than a year into their marriage. A few weeks later, a public display of affection on the beach in Byron Bay confirmed they were more than friends. 

Asked if he was in a rebuilding phase, the Hunger Games actor told Men's Health Australia in 2020, "Yeah, that's a good way to put it." 

As a source close to Liam put it to E! News in January 2021, "His relationship with Gabriella is very different from Miley. They like the same things and have the same lifestyle."

For starters, Liam was born—36 years ago on Jan. 13—in Melbourne and Gabriella hails from Sydney. Moreover, the low-key couple are both very family-oriented (his parents, brothers Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth and their wives frequently show up for each other, while Gabriella is one of five siblings) and love being at their Byron Bay home near the beach as much as possible. 

As for her significant other, he was doing "great" and the Hemsworths "are great," she shared. "They are the most beautiful people and I'm very lucky to know them."

And seeing as how invested the various other Hemsworths are in Liam's happiness—"He's a strong guy," sister-in-law Elsa Pataky told reporters in Madrid in 2019, "and he deserves the best"—they're obviously thrilled to know Gabrielle as well. 

"I have a great support network who continually remind me of what's important," Gabriella, previously not used to having that much attention paid to her personal life, told Australia's Daily Telegraph in 2021. "This is incredibly grounding."

Even the couple's red carpet debut in November 2022 at the Sydney premiere of Liam's movie Poker Face was close to home, though their glam has since gone global. 

They most recently attended the season four premiere of The Witcher in London, Gabriella's first red carpet with her engagement ring on her finger—the one Liam thought to buy in advance in hopes of finding the perfect moment to pop the question.
