How Jake Lacy Navigated All Her Fault's "Nightmare" Storyline

"Even just the idea of the kid you're looking after disappearing, is a nightmare," Jake said in an exclusive interview with E! News. "Sarah talked about building from that place, and then bringing that across to the parallel life that's been constructed for this character. So that you're not on set living in some mindset of my child is gone, but using that emotional life to inform where that character is."

The Emmy nominee, a dad to two sons with wife Lauren Deleo, added, "I find this job so fulfilling. I love living in my imagination and working with people and creating stuff."

But he's also aware that acting is pretend.

"Figure out how to shake it off," the White Lotus alum advised. "Then, go live your regular life. Do what you got to do to let it go and then go back to your world."

"I certainly was exhausted after long days on set of living in this emotional space," Jake noted, "but also would then gladly check out immediately and have the transpo guys drop me off at the gym and then pick up a pizza on the way home and go watch Alan Partridge videos from 20 years ago."

And, as Jake mentioned, Sarah helped set the tone on the Melbourne set.

"Most of the cast is American, we're shooting in Australia, people are away from home," he explained. "The vibe on set, with all those things considered, was great because that tone gets set by number one on the call sheet. And Sarah, beyond just being an awesome person and an incredible actor, is also a great leader."

The bond between the cast—including Dakota FanningMichael Peña and Abby Elliott—has led to rave reviews for the eight-episode series, which is based on Andrea Mara's book.

"It's such a surprise," Jake said of the show's success. "Even with something that's good or that you're proud of, you don't know if it'll catch on or break through. And I'm thrilled."

"It's always exciting to be a part of something that people are watching or talking about," he added, giving a shoutout to creator Megan Gallagher. "It's really a credit to the directors and to the cast and to Megan's writing and the editing."

While Jake portrays Peter Irvine in All Her Fault, he's also famously played another Pete, Pete Miller, in the final season of The Office, a milestone experience for the actor.

"That was my favorite show that was on air when I got to be on it," he told E!, "so I felt like the whole time I was on The Office, I just didn't want to screw it up. I didn't want to improv, I was showing up early, I was leaving late, I just did not want to screw it up."

Despite any personal fears of joining the iconic show, Jake noted, "Everybody there was so welcoming and kind and generous, everybody was really like, 'We're so excited you're here.' It was really warm."

"Jon Favreau came in and directed an episode—what a legend," he recalled. "People knew it was the last year, and they were rolling through to do that. It was such a cool experience."
