Fans of one of the biggest isekai ever, KonoSuba - God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!, have been hotly anticipating news of the fourth season of the anime ever since a big 10-year anniversary announcement was teased from the series on social media. Although fans hoped that this would address the upcoming season, it turns out the announcements were for two spin-off light novels, both written by the original author, Natsume Akatsuki.

Detour for the 4th Time and Even More Spotlight on That Fool will be released simultaneously on Feb. 28.

Much more intriguing, perhaps, was the announcement of a livestream that will take place on Jan. 13. Four cast members of the KonoSuba anime will be there to present more information on the light novels, and what many assume will be news about the series’ fourth season, which has been confirmed but still lacks a release date or window. The cast includes Jun Fukushima, Amamiya Sora, Rie Takahashi, Ai Kayano, and MC Hyakka Ryouran.

According to YouTuber Otahare-san, the plot synopsis of Detour for the 4th Time includes characters Kazuma and Megumin going on a date to the theater, Darkness acting as a lord who suffers through hardships, and Kazuma setting off on a “genuine adventure.” There is also mention of a brand-new character appearing in the spin-off.

For those who are unaware, KonoSuba follows shut-in gamer Kazuma Satou, who dies an embarrassing death and is reincarnated into a fantasy world to defeat the Demon King. Spitefully dragging the useless goddess Aqua along, Kazuma forms a wildly dysfunctional party with explosion-obsessed mage Megumin and masochistic crusader Darkness. Rather than embarking on a noble quest, the group spends most of its time scraping by, racking up debt, and stumbling into victories, using incompetence and chaos to gleefully subvert traditional isekai and RPG fantasy tropes.

The unusual approach and the genuinely lovable characters have garnered a massive following for the franchise. The 10-year KonoSuba anniversary live stream is scheduled to begin at 9 PM on Jan 13.
