Hell Yeah, an Action Figure Wave of ‘Star Wars’ Freaks

7 hours ago 1

From the very beginnings of Star Wars action figures, you’ve been able to get action figures of the gluppiest shittos around. It was part of the whole charm of the fully armed and operational merchandising campaign of it all that almost every background character had as much of a chance of being turned into plastic as the heroes and villains did. But over time, and as modern Star Wars figures got more detailed and more advanced, the focus pivoted to mostly human characters. That’s slowly but surely changed again in time to get us where we are now: a whole wave of perfect action figure freaks.

This morning Hasbro spent a livestream going over some of the early Star Wars figures it has planned for early 2026. There’s not a human (or close enough) among them, not even a movie tie-in, although there’s no doubt The Mandalorian and Grogu will give us plenty more chances to release Yet Further Figures of the Mandalorian and Grogu soon enough. But while Hasbro’s staying quiet on a few of the reveals it made today—a “Lord Starkiller” figure for Black Series, inspired by The Force Unleashed‘s Dark Side DLC that envisioned Galen Marek as a claw-handed cybernetic Sith assassin, and a four-pack of Mos Eisley cantina patrons for Vintage Collection, including Garindan the spy, Labria the Devaronian, Arleil Schous the Defel, and Chalmun himself, the mustachioed Wookiee owner of Chalmun’s Cantina—it’s showing off a good chunk of the next Black Series wave in style, because they’re all wild alien picks.

Coming up for Black Series are a veritable host of Attack of the Clones-inspired choices. Most directly from that movie are Taun We, the Kaminoan administrator, who comes complete with an exciting Space Tablet as an accessory, and a Geonosian Warrior, who comes with much more exciting accessories like an alternate set of flight wings, a sonic blaster, and a flight stand. Although he’s definitely more inspired by his Phantom Menace presence than his brief appearance in Attack of the Clones, the third figure is none other than Watto, who, like the Geonosian, comes with alternate wings and a stand for flying but also a plethora of other small accessories, like a chance cube, walking stick, and data pad.

They’re all fun and weird choices, which make for exciting and unique action figures, from the lanky limbs of Taun We to the winged options of both Watto and the Geonosian. But it’s also so fun just because, outside of stalwarts like Chewbacca, Black Series in particular just doesn’t have that many truly alien figures. Hasbro has tried to change that in fits and starts lately (we got Sebulba last year, as well as a few neat races represented by Jedi Masters like Shaak Ti and Kit Fisto), but giving us three in one go like this marks a significant step forward for the little freaks quotient in the line. And long may it continue!

The Black Series Taun We, Watto, and Geonosian Warrior are all set to go up for pre-order later this week at Hasbro Pulse and other retailers on January 14 at 1 p.m. ET, ahead of a release in spring. They’ll set you back $28 apiece, because, of course, Republic credits will do you no good out here.
