The Pitt is back for its much-anticipated second season, and the proof is in its streaming dominance on HBO Max. Streaming data from FlixPatrol reveals that the Noah Wyle-led drama is the most-watched show on the platform barely a week after the first episode of the season dropped. The show occupies the number one position in most countries where the streaming service is available, including the United States. Meanwhile, it's also appearing on PVOD charts in countries where HBO Max is not available, as viewers dive into the story that made The Pitt HBO Max's biggest show.
The Pitt premiered in 2025, five years after HBO Max was launched with a slate of original and licensed programming. The service had produced its original streaming shows and movies in addition to hosting Warner Bros.' vast library. While many of its shows were successful in their own right, The Pitt's massive success last year was the first time the platform experienced a true viral sensation. The medical drama became a cultural and internet phenomenon thanks to its production quality, acting, and storyline. The real-time format, coupled with its endearing characters and raw feel, made The Pitt one of the biggest shows of the year, and the biggest on HBO Max.
What Is 'The Pitt' About?
The Pitt is an ensemble show, but it largely focuses on Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a senior doctor and Chief of the Emergency Department at a modern hospital in Pittsburgh. Robby and his team are on the front lines of every imaginable medical case, and each episode chronicles an hour of their shift. The days are marked by mysteries, discoveries, breakthroughs, and sometimes miracles. Some are harder than others, but together, they make it easier for each other. The first season was an award-season darling, receiving 13 Emmy nominations and winning five. Season 2 dials up the tension by following a shift during a 4th of July weekend. Meanwhile, tensions are brewing between numerous characters. The Pitt has been renewed for Season 3, which is expected to hit the service early next year.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the show is executive produced by John Wells, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich. Other cast members include Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Taylor Dearden (Dr. King), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), Shabana Azeez (Javadi), and Sepideh Moafi (Dr. Al-Hashimi).
New episodes of The Pitt Season 2 stream on HBO Max on Thursdays at 9 PM ET. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
