So, Hans Zimmer, what do you really think about think about the Golden Globes cutting the original score category from the telecast?
“It feels a little bit ignorant” he told Deadline’s Antonia Blyth on this afternoon’s red carpet about the production’s last-minute decision on Friday to shave a few minutes from the CBS and Paramount+ telecast. This despite the addition of a few awards: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television last year, and this year’s Best Podcast Award. We understand that the Original Score award will be presented in the room tonight at the Beverly Hilton.
The original score award this year includes Zimmer as a nominee for Apple Original Films’ F1 as well as Alexandre Desplat for Netflix’s Frankenstein, Max Richter for Focus Features’ Hamnet, Johnny Greenwood for Warner Bros’ One Battle After Another, Ludwig Göransson for Warner Bros’ Sinners and Kangding Ray for Neon’s Sirāt.
Emphasizing the importance of the composer, Zimmer told Blyth, “We are the psychological underbelly of the whole thing.”
“This is a room filled with filmmakers who understand the mechanics and understand when I come home after working on a film, my children don’t know who I am because I haven’t been home for months,” said the 2x Oscar winner of Dune and The Lion King.
Hans, what would you say to the person who cut the category?
He exclaimed, “I wouldn’t talk to them — I think our potential friendship has bene cancelled.”
“The composer has such an important role in making films by the time we come to the music, the director has been through war,” he added, “Our first job is to remind him why he did this film in the first place.”
While Zimmer quipped the telecast’s shortening makes it hard for a composer to thank their mom, he’s actually guilty of that: “I once forgot to thank my mother at the Oscars.”
What did she say about?
“Alot! We’re keeping it there.”
