Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a success by most metrics when it releases. The brand name is too big at this point, but several factors, including price, will determine its success.
Over on Reddit, fans are discussing the potential fallout of a high GTA 6 price tag, and what it could mean for the industry as a whole. In general, people are over the rising prices of games.
Will GTA 6 Cost $80?
It Very Well Could
By the time GTA 6 hits on November 19, 2026, the gaming industry could be a lot different. We're already seeing the prices of older consoles rise rather than fall, and all the major publishers have moved into a $70 range for AAA games. But as the year goes on, price creep is a serious concern among gamers.
The talk of the town is explicitly GTA 6. Given that it'll push everything else out of its wake, it's entirely possible that Rockstar could see dollar signs and charge $80 for GTA 6, knowing people will pay for it, amid a game drought it caused. And that $80 price point could be for the standard edition, ignoring any potential early access perks or bonus content drops. With all this uncertainty, fans are wondering what to expect.
Gamers Don't See The Point
Gaming Is Getting More Expensive
At the prospect of seeing an $80 Grand Theft Auto 6 price tag, one user writes, "That is a pretty safe prediction, really." Another isn't as hopeful: "Depending on where you live, I’ve seen some people say that the tax rates would take it above $100-$120. They would definitely price some people out of buying it immediately. Not saying the game won’t break records, but you do lose something with this."
One user in particular seems OK with paying whatever price: "To be honest I would pay $100, this game has cost a fortune to develop, not happy about the way they treated their staff."
Rockstar content creator GameRollGTA had this to say: "I’ve always been somebody who thinks that Take-Two will keep it at the usual $70. Why risk turning people off? It’s going to sell, and it will sell better than any game ever has before. Charging more than the industry standard just feels like an unnecessary risk."
User Least_Stand_2707 has an idea that I think will pan out: "They should price the standard at $70 and make the other editions cost more. Making it more than $70 just seems so unnecessary. Everyone is gonna buy this game and they'll be making boatloads off gta6 online for the next decade."
In any case, everyone seems to agree they're scared of what Rockstar might charge for Grand Theft Auto 6. While some folks are confident that they won't charge more than $70, anything can happen.
