GTA 6 is officially set to launch November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but according to recent rumblings, Rockstar Games may be favoring one of those platforms over the other when the game releases. I'd imagine you can probably already guess which of the two it's going to be.

It's been a long road to the launch of GTA 6. The game has had two public delays so far, with new reports suggesting a third delay isn't entirely out of the question as the sequel to GTA 5 still isn't actually content complete. As if things weren't confusing enough, it now sounds as if PlayStation 5 will be the main console for GTA 6, whatever that means.

PlayStation 5 Looks Set To Be GTA 6's Main Console

Xbox gamers aren't going to like this...

GTA 6 Jason

While nothing has been officially confirmed, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier appeared on the latest episode of gaming podcast Button Mash to shed some more light on where GTA 6 is currently at. The big news is that he believes Rockstar will absolutely delay again rather than release it in a "compromised state." However, he also touched on PlayStation 5 being GTA 6's "main platform."

Around the 9:55 mark in the episode, Schreier says: "PlayStation is the main platform for the game. It's kind of like a PlayStation Exclusive, and I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA. They will not release anything within the blast zone."

Here's the full quote, which also provides a small insight into Marvel's Wolverine:

"Wolverine is almost certainly going to come out in September or October. Xbox is almost a non-factor, I'm sure they'll sell millions on Xbox, but PlayStation is the main platform, so its almost... in some ways its kind of like a PlayStation Exclusive, that most of the sales will be on PlayStation and it will sell a lot of PlayStation 5s alongside it. So I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA and will not release anything within the blast zone."

What Does This Actually Mean?

It's a complicated situation

So what does this actually mean for Xbox gamers? The good news is, we can be fairly confident this doesn't mean PlayStation 5 gamers are getting any kind of exclusive content or DLC. It's more likely that PlayStation will be more involved with the marketing of GTA 6, with Sony's console being pushed as the platform to play the new game on as a result.

This isn't the first time we've heard rumors like this, mind you. In July last year, it was suggested a PlayStation 5 Pro GTA 6 bundle would be heavily pushed in the lead-up to the game's launch, with the PS5 Pro featuring enhanced features like 60fps, and a few other performance and fidelity options. It's also worth noting that PlayStation announced and led the charge, marketing wise, on the big next-gen GTA 5 update that launched alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S back in 2020, so there's clearly a precedent here. A partnership between GTA 6 and PlayStation seems almost inevitable, then. Watch this space.
