Spoilers ahead for Greenland 2: Migration's ending.Gerard Butler’s new movie, Greenland 2: Migration, has had much discussion about its ending, and his co-star Morena Baccarin, known for Deadpool, reveals her thoughts and why she was "really shocked."

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Baccarin spoke about the shocking death, which even shocked her when she first found out the plan. Butler’s character John Garrity, his wife Allison (Baccarin), and their son Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) make their way from Greenland to Europe in hopes of finding an inhabitable valley.

However, the plan goes into disarray as John is diagnosed with cancer due to radiation poisoning from the wasteland. John’s main mission is to get his family to safety, and during the final moments of the film, he is shot and dies surrounded by his wife and son just as they reach their destination.

Baccarin’s shock for the ending was also relayed through critics and fans watching as the franchise’s star meets a tragic end:

"So I knew going into the film that was what they planned to do. And I was really shocked, actually. But I think it makes so much sense, given what we've been through. I think it really solidifies him as the ultimate hero and sacrificer for his family, you know. He swore he would get us to safety and to a new life."

Gerard Butler as John Garrity, Morena Baccarin as Allison Garrity, and Roman Griffin Davis as Nathan Garrity in Greenland 2

It’s unclear if the franchise will continue as Butler’s character will obviously not be returning, and Baccarin spoke about what’s next for the mother and son duo as they rebuild following the tragic ending of Greenland 2:

"I'd like to believe that regrowth happens on Earth in a different way. Life is different, but also similar to what it used to be. And, you know, after massive annihilation like that, there's us, there's a sign, and a hope for life. We see trees, we see grass, birds, and we hear birds chirping. I think that's all just an indication that there's a cycle, and we are on the regrowth part."

Another Greenland addition isn’t out of the question, and Baccarin’s remarks could be a potential plot line for future movies in the franchise. Greenland 2: Migration didn’t receive great acclaim as it only reached 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the first installment, which has 77%.
