For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.
He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.
His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.
After more than a year of near-total silence, Warner Bros.’ long-awaited J.J. Abrams movie starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega has officially resurfaced — and it finally has a title.
According to a new Writers Guild of America listing, the project is now confirmed to be called The Great Beyond. The filing also categorizes the film as a dramatic action-adventure. Now, that's not the sexiest way to announce a movie but in this day and age, we'll just take what we can get. During production, the project operated under the working title Ghostwriter, fueling months of speculation about its true identity.
In addition to Powell and Ortega, The Great Beyond boasts a stacked supporting cast that includes Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie) and Samuel L. Jackson. While character details remain tightly under wraps, earlier reports suggested the story may involve a couple battling a supernatural force. Basically, we have no idea what the movie is about.
Production on the film took place across multiple countries. Much of the large-scale world-building was handled in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, where locations were heavily transformed to resemble a futuristic megacity. In August, Abrams and his team spent a full week filming in Providence, Rhode Island, using the city largely as itself. Locations included Benefit Street, the Providence Performing Arts Center, Federal Hill, and even an overnight shutdown of the Point Street Bridge for key scenes involving Powell.
What Has J.J. Abrams Made Lately?
Although Abrams hasn't directed a movie since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, which ended the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and the hopes and dreams of millions of fans who would like to pretend it never existed, he has been busy in a producing capacity. Abrams signed a lucrative overall deal with Warner Bros for $250 million, although to date he doesn't seem to have actually turned any water into wine for the studio. Abrams is also involved in the lengthy attempt to continue the big-screen Star Trek franchise he re-launched in 2009; progress on a fourth movie reuniting Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the Enterprise crew has been fitful, but Steve Yockey is now attached to write the film.
As for what’s next, The Great Beyond is currently in post-production, and we'll have all the latest details on the movie as and when it becomes available.
