German Box Office Rises 9% to $1.01 Billion Led by Comedy Western ‘Manitou’s Canoe’

Box office in Germany rose 9% to €864 million ($1.01 billion) last year, with admissions growing 4.5% to 84.6 million, according to Comscore.

This compares with 2024’s €793 million, and admissions totaling 80.9 million, and 2023’s €859 million with 87.2 million tickets sold. Box office in 2024 was down 7.8% on the previous year.

German films took a 24.8% share of the B.O. market in 2025, and 27% of the admissions, the highest for many years. One of the local films, comedy western “Manitou’s Canoe” (Das Kanu des Manitu), took the overall number one position in Germany for the year, with over 5 million admissions, and another homegrown film, “The School of Magical Animals 4,” was also in the top 10, with 2.9 million admissions.

“Manitou’s Canoe,” released by Constantin, had a gross of €50.9 million in 2025. The film, which is a sequel to the hit “Manitou’s Shoe,” is directed, co-written and is produced by Michael “Bully” Herbig, who also stars.

Second was “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” released by Disney, with €44 million in 2025.

Third was “A Minecraft Movie,” released by Warner Bros., with a €35.5 million gross.

Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and “Zoomania 2” followed with €31.8 million and €31.6 million respectively.

In sixth place was Universal’s “Jurassic World: Rebirth” with €29.3 million, and Leonine’s “The School of Magical Animals 4” was in seventh with €24.7 million.

Eighth position was occupied by “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” released by Sony/Paramount, with €17.8 million.

Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” came in at number nine with €16.7 million, and Warner Bros’ “The Conjuring: Last Rites” was at number 10 with €15.3 million.
