Image via FX on HuluIt's been a couple of months since Alien: Earth, FX's best sci-fi series to date, aired its mind-blowing Season 1 finale, and fans are still reeling. Created by Noah Hawley, who also served as showrunner, the show premiered on FX and FX on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally on August 12, 2025, ending after eight episodes on September 23. Although it was an instant critics' favorite, it wasn't renewed until November, which was quite surprising given the positive response it received. Anyway, as we all anticipate its return, series star Babou Ceesay has some interesting news about Season 2's storyline, pointing to unrest ahead.
Speaking in an interview with CBR at the Critics' Choice Awards, Ceesay, who plays Kumi Morrow in Alien: Earth, teased "more of a family element" for the upcoming season, which doesn't necessarily mean everything will be at peace. "We're gonna go big, yeah, yes," he shared. "And I think there's going to be more of a family element to it. Now, whenever people hear the word family, maybe they'll interpret it as something benign and peaceful."
Elaborating on the family elements in Alien: Earth Season 2 without giving much away, the actor added:
“It's not in that sense. It's, we know what family can be like, right? Yes. So it's, it's about relationships with the backdrop of this huge sci-fi alien world. And, you know, we're embedded now, it's in [where] we started. So we've got eight hours in. Let's see what, what happens.”
'Alien: Earth' Is FX's Best Sci-Fi Series Yet
Season 2 of the sci-fi show will be filmed in London, according to Ceesay, which is a challenge for him, though he was uncertain when filming would begin. He also revealed the one thing he was most proud of in Alien: Earth Season 1, saying: "I was really proud of, because [it was] one thing to all on the set, having the time of our lives, feeling happy, and everyone throwing in their work and knowing that everyone wanted to be there and is giving their best work. But then to see the product in the end, and go, you know, spending that time calling people, saying, 'Mate, I was just watching this.' Or Sydney (Chandler), right, that scene, you know, or Noah (Hawley) saying, 'wow.' And just feeling grateful that I'm even remotely involved, yeah."
Alien: Earth has no return date yet, but do follow Collider for the latest updates from the hit series.
