He joined Collider as a News Author in April 2024, was promoted to a Senior position in December 2024, and has written over 3,000 articles for the site, including exclusives relating to Avengers: Doomsday, The Penguin, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and more. FX has officially decided the fate of Ethan Hawke's hit Tulsa King replacement series, confirming that The Lowdown has been renewed and will receive a Season 2. This comes more than two months removed from the Season 1 finale, which aired on Hulu on November 4. There was certainly some deliberating to be done on The Lowdown, but fans of the show can rest easy knowing that Lee Raybon’s story isn’t done yet. The series also stars Fallout and Dune star Kyle MacLachlan, and it follows a bookstore owner in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who moonlights as an investigative journalist digging into organized crime.

Production on The Lowdown Season 2 will begin this spring, and the show will likely begin streaming sometime in 2027, though an official date has not yet been announced. The series earned widespread critical acclaim, enough so to rate a nearly perfect 98% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also sits at 77% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. In addition to Hawke and MacLachlan, The Lowdown also features other major guest stars like Tim Blake Nelson (Captain America: Brave New World) and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), along with the late, great Graham Greene (Echo).

Ethan Hawke’s performance in The Lowdown was widely praised as one of the finest of his career, but he’s no stranger to delivering great performances. Hawke is a four-time Oscar nominee dating back to his first nomination in Training Day (Denzel Washington), and he’s since earned acting recognition for his work in Before Sunset (2004), Before Midnight (2014), and Boyhood (2014). The award may have evaded him yet, but it would be surprising not to see him hold the trophy before his career is done.

Ethan Hawke’s Daughter Is Also a Star

Stardom runs in the family for Ethan Hawke, with both his ex-wife and daughter also being two major figures in Hollywood. His daughter, Maya Hawke, is best known for starring as Robin in Stranger Things, the Netflix sci-fi series that just wrapped up this week. Maya’s mother and Ethan’s ex-wife is none other than the great Uma Thurman, who is famous for starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies. Thurman more recently starred as a feature villain in Paramount’s Dexter sequel series, Resurrection, which has been renewed for Season 2.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of The Lowdown Season 2 and watch all episodes of the first season on Hulu.
