HYBE’s about to get hype: PR vet Johanna Fuentes has joined HYBE America as executive VP and head of communications and public relations. In the newly created role, she’ll handle all internal and external communications for HYBE across North and South America.

Fuentes has most recently been consulting with a variety of clients including Regal Cineworld, Activision and Blumhouse, in addition to Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour. She was previously head of global communications for WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group and exec VP, worldwide corporate communications and public affairs at Warner Bros. — where she helped launch HBO Max and the move to day-and-date theatrical releases, as well as its status during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fuentes also spent a decade as EVP of communications at Showtime Networks and headed communications at Bravo.

The news of Fuentes’ hire comes the same day that HYBE America also announced another major hire: Ethiopia Habtemariam as its new president of music. At HYBE America, Fuentes will oversee communications and PR for its music, film and TV portfolios, including Big Machine Label Group and Quality Control Music in the U.S., as well as HYBE’s Latin America and U.S. Hispanic market labels and HYBE’s partnership with Universal Music.

“Johanna is a world-class communications leader with an extraordinary track record of guiding companies through moments of growth, transformation and cultural impact,” said Isaac Lee, Chairman and CEO of HYBE America. “Her strategic vision, deep industry relationships, and ability to connect corporate leadership, artists, and audiences make her an invaluable addition to our executive team as we continue to expand HYBE’s presence and influence across the Americas.”

Fuentes, who is based on Los Angeles, will work with HYBE America’s senior leadership team, as well as HYBE’s global PR team in Korea.

“I’m thrilled to join HYBE America at a defining moment for both the company and the global music industry,” Fuentes said. “HYBE is building a next-generation entertainment model with deep roots in culture, fandom, and global ambition. I look forward to bringing my experience navigating periods of rapid change to help define a bold, cohesive narrative that supports the company’s continued expansion across the Americas.”

While music is HYBE’s focus, the company also has a mix of TV and film in its arsenal, including an upcoming untitled K-Pop film directed by Benson Lee, in production with Paramount. HYBE’s roster of artists include BTS, Katseye, Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, Thomas Rhett, Rascal Flatts, Riley Green, Lady A, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, Quavo, Santos Bravos, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM and Cortis. The company also recently announced a management deal with Tyla.
