Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.
What's going on with Fallout in 2026? All signs point to a pretty big year for the beloved franchise, but in terms of official confirmation from Bethesda, we don't have much to go on. The good news is we do know 2026 will see the return of one past Fallout game. The bad news? It's probably not the one you wanted.
It makes sense Bethesda would want to capitalize on the success of Amazon's Fallout series for as long as it can. The show is still going strong, and while Fallout 5 isn't exactly close, there are other ways we can celebrate the wasteland in all its glory.
Fallout Is Officially Back This Year
Wait, not you again?
Yes, Bethesda is officially re-releasing a beloved Fallout game this year. Rumors suggest a Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas remaster could be on the way, but those have yet to be confirmed in any real capacity. What we do know for sure is that Bethesda is bringing back — drumroll please — Fallout 4.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend that's not the most underwhelming possible choice, but that's the way it is. Fallout 4 will be re-released again in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2. It'll come with the base game, all six DLCs, and over 150 Creation Club items. There won't be any mod support, though, which kind of sucks.
There's no set release date for the port at this time, but it's definitely coming this year. Given rumors of a Nintendo Direct in February, I'd be willing to bet we find out more then.
It's Not The Fallout You Wanted
Don't shoot the courier
I know this isn't the 2026 Fallout re-release you were after. It's not the one I wanted either, if that helps at all. It's also worth noting there's definitely still a chance we could get a remake for Fallout 3 or New Vegas this year. Multiple leakers have said with some confidence that Bethesda has something cooking, so we could find out for sure soon.
One of the biggest signs towards a Fallout 3 remake is that such a project was leaked in the very same court documents that showed the Oblivion remake. I don't know if Bethesda would do another stealth-drop, but it would absolutely be a baller move if they did. Fallout's second season finale airs February 4, so it may be that we find out more then.
