Although Bethesda is likely years away from giving us the next mainline entry in the franchise, it's a pretty good time to be a Fallout fan. It's been in the zeitgeist recently because of the TV show, and fans are hard at work crafting masterpieces that you can play at home.

This time, we're spotlighting a remake of a classic Fallout game. It's called Project Arroyo, and it's incredibly ambitious.

It'll Be Great To Revisit It Again

Simply put, Project Arroyo is looking to remake the entire world of Fallout 2 in the modern Creation Engine of Fallout 4. It's a tall order, and it's been worked on for several years.

If you want to see how transformative the mod will be, look no further than their social media account. In addition to recreating classic enemies, it also sports the modding community's own creations. Environments will be overhauled, too, according to the team's missive: "We’re expanding our locations to feel more natural and immersive. Instead of keeping everything flat, we’ve adjusted them to better fit a true 3D world and Fallout 4’s gameplay."

The project has been providing regular updates, most recently showcasing new mole rat designs for Project Arroyo. At this point, the project's groundswell of support is massive, with over 13,000 Discord members to date.

Although Project Arroyo doesn't have a release date yet, it's still in active development, and the team occasionally recruits people into the cause. With regular updates, it appears the complete remake conversion is still full speed ahead.

Who Needs Fallout 5?

We Know It's Being Worked On

We're pretty rich with Fallout-related promotions and media at the moment. This month, we'll get a new card game called Fallout: Power Play. The second season of the Fallout TV series is also currently airing, set in New Vegas, and could introduce new lore bits that could be followed up on in a future game.

Then there's a free Prime Gaming promotion for Fallout 1 & 2, which could serve as an excellent primer for getting into the upcoming unofficial Fallout 2 remake. The first two games in the series are still highly recommended by fans, as they offer a ton of player choices, and the world is richly realized from the get-go.

With all the mainline Fallout games widely available, it's easier than ever to experience this series if you want. We also know that Bethesda can't resist re-releasing their existing projects on new platforms, so expect the franchise to live on in perpetuity. Until the next mainline game hits, there's plenty of Fallout to enjoy.
