After 50 Cent's shocking documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, was released on Netflix, it was revealed that Sean "Diddy" Combs had sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting a pardon following his prison sentence.
In a New York Times report, it was revealed that Trump would not be helping Combs with his prison sentence despite previously vouching for the music mogul’s character in 2012 and stating he was a "good friend." Combs was convicted on two prostitution-related charges and sentenced to 50 months in jail in October 2025.
Trump told New York Times reporters that Combs had "asked me for a pardon," and it was provided to the President "through a letter." However, it was noted by the reporters that Trump did not show evidence of Combs’ letter, and his spokesperson hasn’t confirmed the letter was sent by him or on his behalf.
Courtesy of Netflix © 2025This isn’t the first time Trump has been asked about the possibility of pardoning the Bad Boy founder. He was asked in May 2025 during a press briefing about whether he would consider granting a pardon, to which he responded, "I don't know. I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, it wouldn't matter whether they like me or don't," as reported on ABC News.
He followed up about the 2012 video showing Trump referring to Diddy as a friend, to which he responded that Diddy "used to really like me a lot" and alleged that he made "nasty statements" about him.
The White HouseIn an interview with Newsmax, when discussing his past relationship with Combs, Trump stated that things between them changed when Trump got involved with politics:
"I got along with him great. Seemed like a nice guy. I didn't know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile. ... It's hard. We're human beings. We don't like to have things cloud our judgment, right? But when you knew someone, and you were fine, and then you run for office, and he made some terrible statements. So, I don't know. It's more difficult. Makes it more, I'm being honest, makes it more difficult to do."
Combs' current release date is May 25, 2028, and he was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges, and was found guilty of lesser charges, including transportation to engage in prostitution, and it's clear Donald Trump isn't interested in his pleas for a pardon.
