It's been four years since it was announced that Genshin Impact would be getting an anime adaptation, produced by Ufotable, the same studio behind Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Since then, updates on the project have been scarce, to the point that fans believed it may have been forgotten. Fortunately, Hoyoverse, the game studio behind Genshin Impact, has shared a progress report on the upcoming anime project, reassuring fans that it's still in development.
During the Genshin FES event in Shanghai, China, Genshin Impact's combat designer, Aquaria, revealed that the anime is still in production and that the project isn't facing any issues. Unfortunately, a release date has yet to be announced, nor have they shared any details about a potential plot. The Genshin Impact anime was first announced during the game's Version 3.1 update livestream in 2022. Hoyoverse released a concept anime trailer, revealing that it's a "long-term project" with Ufotable. The trailer featured only Paimon (Corina Boettger), the game's mascot, and the two travelers, Lumine (Sarah Miller-Crews) and Aether (Zach Aguilar), and showcased only some environmental designs.
"Rest assured, it's in the works. There are no unexpected issues, no instability, everything is progressing steadily."
Genshin Impact is an ongoing open-world fantasy gacha game that launched in 2020, in which the player travels across the world of Teyvat to find their sibling, whom they separated from at the start of the game. Throughout the story, the player explores different regions to gather more clues about their sibling's location while also helping address the issues the regions face. At the moment, only six main storyline chapters have been released. Since its release, Genshin Impact has received numerous accolades, including nominations at The Game Awards for "Player's Voice" and "Best Ongoing Game," and, according to PocketGamer.biz, has generated over $6.4 billion as of September 2025.
