‘Demon Slayer’ Filmmakers Reveal ‘Infinity Castle’s Lengthy Original Runtime

It's no secret that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle was a massive success in 2025. The film broke numerous box-office records and is the 7th-highest-grossing film of the year. However, this anime movie almost took a page from James Cameron's playbook, as its original runtime was longer than 2.5 hours.

In a recent report, it was revealed that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was originally over three hours long "after storyboarding." This information was shared by Ufotable president and chief director Hikaru Kondo, who said that there was "no clear "overall groove of what the journey was." Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is the first out of three installments that will adapt the final chapters of the Demon Slayer manga. These cut scenes may be either part of the next film or were chopped and might see the light of day if the film were to get a physical release.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was a massive success since its release in Japan in July 2025 and in Western countries in September 2025. It generated over $780 million worldwide, has received near-perfect critic and audience scores of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was nominated for "Best Motion Picture - Animated" at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. It's also the highest-grossing Demon Slayer film to date, surpassing its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which is the highest-grossing Japanese film, the highest-grossing R-rated animated film, and the second-highest-grossing adult animated film. At the moment, the official release dates for its sequels have not been announced, and there is no news on when it will be available on Crunchyroll or any other streaming platforms.

What's 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' About?

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle adapts the first half of the Infinity Castle Arc, a sub-arc of the Final Battle arc from the Demon Slayer manga by Koyoharu Gotouge. The film takes place immediately after the events of Season 4's finale, in which the Demon Slayer Corps was sent to the Infinity Castle and must face the remaining Twelve Kizuki before they can battle the demon king, Muzan (Greg Chun). Meanwhile, Nezuko (Abby Trott) is away from the battlefield, taking a drug that will restore her humanity.

In Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, it featured a battle between Upper Rank Two Doma (Stephen Fu), New Upper Rank Six Kaigaku (Alejandro Saab), and the return of Upper Rank Three Akaza (Lucien Dodge). Alongside the returning voice cast from the anime series, Infinity Castle also stars Channing Tatum, who voiced Keizo, and Rebecca Wang, who plays Koyuki.
