Rey fans were overjoyed when, a few years back, Daisy Ridley’s standalone Star Wars movie was announced. The feature, tentatively titled New Jedi Order, is helmed by Ms. Marvel vet Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and promises a continuation of Rey’s story after The Rise of Skywalker. As fans patiently wait, the movie has given a few promising updates, with development still in progress. But Ridley recently discussed the film in a new interview, providing an update on the fan-favorite character.
Ridley is involved in crafting the story of the upcoming feature, recently describing the experience of stepping back into Rey’s shoes as “interesting,” to ComicBook in a new conversation. Adding, “I am six years older. I am in a different moment.” She further teased, “I think the story will be wonderful. I think the wait will be worthwhile. I think it will be a discovery, as all roles are, of where Rey is when we meet her again.” While updates for the movie have gone rather cold, Ridley’s comments point in a direction where, behind the scenes, wheels are slowly and steadily rolling. She previously assured Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, “There’s always movement,” she said, “but the movement is at the right pace, because the best things are worth the wait.”
What’s Happening With Other ‘Star Wars’ Movies?
Disney’s next big screen offering is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will bring back Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and baby Yoda to the big screen alongside The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White, Avatar’s Sigourney Weaver, and many more. It remains to be seen what turns the fan-favorite duo’s story takes next in the Jon Favreau-directed feature, but it’ll certainly see Grogu’s evolving powers while Din fights off some new adversaries. The movie is set to be released this May.
Then there’s Shawn Levy’s Starfighter movie that brings Ryan Gosling to the galaxy far far away. The story is set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, and will explore a new realm for the franchise. The director previously shared a glimpse of the actor on set. The film wrapped production in December 2025, giving post-production enough time to polish things off before the 2027 release. The ensemble also includes Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Daniel Ings.
For now, though, fans can check out The Mandalorian and Grogu series on Disney+ along with other Star Wars projects. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the upcoming New Jedi Order movie.
