The X-Men's increasing prominence in the MCU timeline thanks to the Multiverse Saga has been one of the most key parts of this new chapter for Marvel's movie franchise - especially because this has involved the return of several major Fox X-Men movie actors in their roles.
With different iterations of the X-Men now having been established as parts of more than one MCU universe, Marvel movie audiences are getting chapters of the hero team's story that previously seemed essentially unthinkable for the big screen. Avengers: Doomsday may well reinforce this idea by delving into the story of Cyclops' son, too, if one theory about the character and what the MCU has in store holds true.
The X-Men Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Is Based Around Cyclops' Son According To One MCU Theory
Scott Summers is one of the more historically unlucky superheroes in comic history, and while the Avengers: Doomsday X-Men trailer promises we'll see the full use of his powers in the movie, it also depicts a battered-looking Cyclops using his abilities seemingly in some kind of desperate bid to save the day, suggesting Summers may have his work cut out for him in the movie.
Though there are plenty of possible explanations for the Cyclops scene, the general theme of Avengers: Doomsday - which revolves around heroes and their children - combined with Scott's apparent plight have resulted in a theory that Summers' turmoil is due to his own child having been either been kidnapped, or placed in peril due to the multiversal collisions teased to take place within the story's plot.
This would align with the comics, as Scott and Jean Grey's son Nathan Summers - perhaps better known by his later hero moniker of Cable - is famously sent into the future in order to save him from the techno-organic virus he's infected with. Adapting elements of this story in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond would help tie the X-Men's story in with several other narrative threads, while also opening the opportunity for the MCU to explore Jean Grey and Cyclops in a way the movies haven't been able to thus far.
Avengers: Doomsday's Biggest Theme So Far Supports The Nathan Summers MCU Movie Theory
Currently, the other teasers we've gotten for Avengers: Doomsday hinge around various heroes and their children. For example, the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers is combined with the reveal of Steve's newborn child, and Thor's Doomsday teaser sees him praying for the strength to succeed in battle and return home to his adopted daughter Love.
It's also obvious the Fantastic Four's story will be in a similar vein, given Franklin Richards was born in the team's MCU movie debut, and Doctor Doom is shown interacting with him in The Fantastic Four: First Steps' ending.
While the X-Men could easily fit into this equation in terms of simply wishing to protect the next generation, connecting things to this actual next generation through means like adding in Nathan Summers would help things be as thematically consistent as possible - with the added side benefit of teeing up a new era for the X-Men in the MCU going forward after Avengers: Doomsday that could thus incorporate this next generation more naturally.
