Parasite Mutant Game Hallway

Resident Evil continued to influence the entire survival horror genre since its release, and its own brand of horror rubbed off on a ton of publishers, major and indie alike. Parasite Mutant is an homage to that era, crafted by studio IceSitruuna.

The official description tells you all you need to know: "Parasite Mutant is a survival horror RPG that uses Active Time Chain system. Players play as Psionic Agent Nova who is on a mission to investigate a mysterious abandoned island city, eventually leading her to uncover a hidden conspiracy and secret, changing her fate completely."

Specifically cited as a combat system that is reminiscent of "RPGs of the late-90s," you'll need to decide between dodging and attacking at specific times to maximize and avoid damage. If you're really into '90s style, there are also retro and CRT filters to toggle.

Although this game is an indie release, it's also packed with content, as there's an equipment progression system, as well as the ability to swap your appearance via hairstyles, hair colors, and outfits. Parasite Mutant sports a New Game+ mode, where you regain abilities from a prior playthrough, while fighting off new challenges in additional locations.

If you're interested, there's a free demo available now to try. The game is still slated for release in 2026, so there's plenty of time to decide whether or not it's your cup of tea.

It's Survival Horror With Cyberpunk Vibes

And "Very Positive" Steam Reviews

Parasite Mutant Combat UI

While the survival horror-meets-cyberpunk vibe is a clear way to describe what Parasite Mutant is about, it's alsoan homage to 1998's Parasite Eve, with a similar-looking protagonist and combat system.

The PlayStation classic is famous for being Squaresoft's first M-rated game at the time, and even welcomed two sequels on PS1 and PSP respectively. While Square Enix has been mum on the series since, fans are still waiting for another entry in the series, and creators have been using it as a springboard ever since.

If you're one of those people, now is your chance to try Parasite Mutant on Steam. While no release date is set, you can try the demo now and share feedback on the final build.
