Two exciting spin-offs of Bosch and Sherlock have been confirmed, making it hard not to see how Prime Video is missing on one big opportunity.
Harry Bosch and Sherlock Holmes are two of the most recognizable detective characters of all time. Their legacies were further cemented when they got incredible TV interpretations in recent years. Owing to this, it is not surprising that their existing franchises are being expanded with new, enthralling spin-offs.
However, as exciting as their spinoffs may seem, they reveal how another major detective franchise is actually leaving money on the table.
Bosch & Sherlock Are Both Getting Spinoffs With Younger Versions Of Their Characters
The bad news for both Harry Bosch and Sherlock Holmes fans is that Titus Welliver and Benedict Cumberbatch will not play Bosch and Sherlock, respectively, in a large capacity anytime soon. The good news is that both characters will soon return to the small screens and will be portrayed in a slightly different light.
On March 4, 2026, a new series, titled Young Sherlock, will land on Prime Video in which Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play a 19-year-old version of the iconic detective character.
Guy Ritchie is directing the series while Matthew Parkhill is its showrunner. It is based on Andrew Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes book series and will have eight episodes in season 1. Interestingly, Bosch, too, will get a similar interpretation soon.
In the Bosch prequel, titled Start of Watch, Cameron Monaghan will star as the younger version of Titus Welliver's iconic character.
While it is unfortunate that Titus Welliver and Benedict Cumberbatch are not playing the two detective characters they once made legendary, it is hard not to deny that both shows sound incredibly exciting. Prime Video seems to have landed two more massive wins with both prequel shows. It is still, however, leaving money on the table by taking the same approach with another major detective franchise.
After Bosch & Sherlock, A “Young Reacher” Series Does Not Sound Too Bad
In terms of critical and commercial success, Prime Video's Reacher dominates almost every other show on the streaming service. Reacher, too, is getting the spin-off treatment with the upcoming Neagley-focused show. However, after learning about the young Bosch and Sherlock shows, it is hard not to believe that a Young Reacher series could also work wonders.
In all three Reacher seasons, we have already gotten a glimpse of how compelling the past stories from the Alan Ritchson character's timeline can be. Everything from his journey in the military to the valuable lessons his parents taught him about responsibility could be turned into a season's worth of storytelling.
Hopefully, if Young Sherlock and Bosch perform well on Prime Video, the streamer will consider giving us a Young Reacher spinoff as well.
